BMW S 1000 RR (2020-2026) recall: engine could stall (ignition lock)
On July 23, 2026, Transport Canada published a recall notice for the following motorcycle. If you own this model, here is what you need to know.
Affected models
- BMW S1000RR: 2020–2026
The issue
On certain motorcycles, the ignition lock could wear and lose electrical contact. As a result, the engine could stall while riding. This could also cause the brake lamp, turn signals, anti-lock brake system (ABS) and instrument cluster not to work.
Safety risk
A sudden loss of engine power could increase the risk of a crash. A brake lamp or turn signals that don't work may cause a person not to recognize when a rider is braking, intends to turn, or change lanes, increasing the risk of a crash. In addition, a loss of ABS function could extend stopping distances, increasing the risk of a crash.
What to do
BMW Motorrad will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your motorcycle to a dealership to update the motorcycle software. The dealer will also inspect and, if necessary, replace the ignition lock.
To find out whether your motorcycle is affected, contact a BMW dealer with your vehicle identification number (VIN) handy.
