BMW K 1600 (2017-2025) recall: reverse gear control unit
On April 2, 2026, Transport Canada published a recall notice for the following motorcycles. If you own one of these models, here is what you need to know.
Affected models
- BMW K1600GT: 2017–2025
- BMW K1600 Grand America: 2017–2025
- BMW K1600B: 2017–2025
- BMW K1600GTL: 2017–2025
The issue
On certain motorcycles, the reverse gear control unit may not have been sealed properly. As a result, water could enter the control unit and cause it to corrode. If this happens, the control unit could short circuit and overheat. This could also cause the turn signals and reverse function not to work.
Safety risk
A short circuit can create the risk of a fire. Turn signals that don't work may cause a person not to recognize when the rider intends to turn or change lanes and could increase the risk of a crash.
What to do
BMW Motorrad will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your motorcycle to a dealership to replace the reverse gear control unit.
To find out whether your motorcycle is affected, contact a BMW dealer with your vehicle identification number (VIN) handy.
