BMW R 18 (2021-2024) recall: reverse control unit, new repair required
On October 7, 2026, Transport Canada published a recall notice for the following motorcycle. If you own this model, here is what you need to know.
Affected models
- BMW R 18: 2021–2024
The issue
On certain motorcycles, the recall repairs completed by a BMW Motorrad dealer during Transport Canada recall no. 2024-561 may not be effective. As a result, certain motorcycles require a second repair. On certain motorcycles, the reverser control unit may not have been sealed properly. As a result, water could enter the control unit and cause it to corrode. If this happens, the control unit could short circuit. Note: This problem could cause the reverse function not to work.
Safety risk
A short circuit can create the risk of a fire.
What to do
BMW Motorrad will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your motorcycle to a dealership to replace the reverser control unit.
To find out whether your motorcycle is affected, contact a BMW dealer with your vehicle identification number (VIN) handy.
