GASGAS recall: after Canada, New Zealand recalls the same bikes
A front brake caliper that can crack, a front brake that can vanish mid-ride: that is the defect behind the recall of thousands of GASGAS and Husqvarna off-road bikes in Canada in May 2025. A year and a half later, the same campaign is resurfacing — in New Zealand. If you ride a GASGAS EX or MC, here is what to check before your next ride.
New Zealand sounds the alarm
On November 5, 2026, Product Safety New Zealand updated its recall notice for GASGAS Cross Country (EX) and Motocross (MC) motorcycles with BRAKTEC brakes, sold between February 6, 2023 and February 2025. The front brake caliper can crack or break — causing loss of the front brake or a blocked front wheel. Either way, the crash risk is real.
Stop using the bike until an authorized GASGAS dealer has inspected it. Inspection and repair are free.
Which bikes are affected in New Zealand?
- EX 250 and EX 300, model years 2023 to 2025
- EX 250F, model years 2023 and 2024
- EX 350F, model year 2024
- MC 125 to MC 300, model years 2024 and 2025
- MC 250F to MC 450F, model years 2023 to 2025
Bikes sold after February 23, 2025 should already have had the recall work done before sale.
The recall has existed in Canada since May 2025
This is not a new Canadian recall — and that matters. On May 15, 2025, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued recall no. 25-283, in conjunction with Canada, for GASGAS and Husqvarna off-road motorcycles from model years 2022 to 2025 (EC, EX, MC and EW). Same defect, same instruction: stop riding and have the caliper inspected free of charge.
About 19,310 bikes are affected in the United States and about 3,870 in Canada. No incidents or injuries had been reported when the recall was issued.
In other words, the campaign is making its way around the world, country by country. If you own a GASGAS from those model years, the recall may already apply to you since May 2025, even if you never received the notice.
What to do if you own a GASGAS
- Stop riding the bike until the front brake caliper has been inspected.
- Have your VIN (vehicle identification number) ready: it is on the right side of the frame, at the steering head.
- Contact an authorized GASGAS dealer: free inspection and repair. In Canada and the United States, the toll-free number is 1-888-985-6090.
- Do not rely on a partial model list: ask the dealer to confirm whether your VIN is affected.
A front brake is not negotiable. If your GASGAS is one of the recalled models, a call to the dealer and a free inspection are all it takes to ride with peace of mind. And for more recalls and motorcycle safety tips, voyagemotoquebec.com.
